And Jesus said to them, "Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his [accomplishments]." And he told them a parable, saying, "The [mind] of a rich [wo]man produced plentifully, and [s]he thought to [her]self, 'What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my [thoughts]?' And [s]he said, 'I will do this: I will tear down my [blog] and build [a more accomplished one], and there I will store all my [thoughts] and my [writings]. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample [publications and a great reputation]; relax, eat, drink, be merry.' But God said to [her], 'Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God."

things i read/wrote today:

1.

I once asked someone how I know if I have too much stuff. They suggested I do these things and then reevaluate my possessions:

a) Spend time in nature

b) Live in community

c) Know a person in poverty

2.

May God bless you with discomfort at easy answers, half truths and superficial relationships, so you may live deep within your heart.

May God bless you with anger at injustice, oppression and exploitation of people, so that you may work for justice, freedom and peace.

May God bless you with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation and war, so that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and turn their pain into joy.

And may God bless you with enough foolishness to believe you can make a difference in the world, so you can do what others claim cannot be done.

Amen.

RE: cityview update

some women at our church do ministry (parenting classes, children's birthday parties) at a building called the allerton. the owners of the building let us lease the room for practically nothing. l (young mom & regular church attender) is an example of the people God's reached through our church's presence there. last night our room was broken into. the people who broke in put graffiti on the walls that made it evident that our church isn't welcome there. n is going to visit the building tomorrow to see what has been stolen.

pray and/or send along a note of encouragement, if the Spirit so moves you.

Mardia Bishop explains, "pop culture and porn culture have become part of the same seamless continuum. As these images become pervasive in popular culture, they become normalized and accepted."
